My favorite free tool for kid's ministry has got to be Class Dojo.
Each of my helpers had downloaded this app onto their phones, and we all keep track during class. The kids love to see their "monsters" and see the points they've earned. You can customize what they earn points for and what they earn negative points for.
I use this every week. At the end of a series, which is 4-6 weeks, I set up a store with prizes that have been donated. The kids each receive a "credit card" on that day. (a business card-sized card stock paper with their name on it.) I put the amount of points they have earned on the card, and they use it to "shop" for their prizes which are labeled with different point amounts.
